Selected Papers From The 2nd International Textile Clothing & Design Conference, Dubrovnik, Croatia

“Those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik and see Dubrovnik” (Bernard Shaw) The Faculty of Textile Technology, University of Zagreb, (Croatia), organised the 2nd International Textile Clothing & Design Conference “Magic World of Textiles”, in the International Centre of Croatian Studies, in Dubrovnik (see Plate 1), from 3 to 6 October 2004. The international conference in the field of textiles, textile technology and design was organised under the auspices of the Croatian Government, as well as of some global and European associations and institutions: DAAAM International Vienna, Austria; AUTEX Gent, Belgium; The Textile Institute, Manchester, UK; International Textile Academie, New Delhi, India; The University of Zagreb, The Croatian Academy of Technical Sciences and The Croatian Association of Chemical Engineers. They have accepted to be the patrons of the conference, proving it to be necessary, justified and useful. The topic of this year’s Conference, planned to be organised bi-annually in Dubrovnik, was defined as Development trends and state of the arts in research in the field of textile and garment technologies, as well as fashion design and marketing of textiles and garment products. Our original idea was to organise an international forum to present and exchange the knowledge and results of research, as well as to make available to all of us (and to the rest of the textile world, of course) recent development trends of the scientific, technical and practical nature, all of them associated with the field of textile raw materials and technologies, garment engineering, fashion design and marketing, as well as environment protection in the field. From the papers received the members of the International Rewiever Committee accepted 180 for the 2nd ITC&DC 2004; all of them published in the Book of Proceedings. Compared to the 1st ITC&DC 2002, the number of papers and participants has increased significantly. What makes us all especially happy, the number of papers presented by young researchers has increased even more, which says clearly that the scientific research in the field of textiles is attractive, interesting, and a “cool” field for promising young scientists.Previously published in: International Journal of Social Economics, Volume: 17, Number 34, 2005
